At our June Chapter meeting, Jane E. Dvorak, APR, Fellow PRSA, will talk about the role of public relations in driving organizations. Jane is chair of PRSA’s National Board of Directors.

PR professionals are faced every day with driving strategy, making decisions and providing insightful counsel, all in an environment where there is constant disruption coming at us from both within and outside our organizations. It takes leadership at all levels to ensure focus, direction and messages are successfully delivered. How well we capitalize on all these elements coming together in a dynamic exchange will ultimately determine how well others will engage with our business.

Jane Dvorak has driven communications programs for some of the largest nonprofits and has used her “thematic planning” concept to boost client programs that have resulted in media coverage in National Geographic and garnered multiple local and national awards. She brings together 30 years of experience to help organizations gain new focus and direction through integrated communications with energy, creativity and impact. Read her full bio at

At our May chapter meeting, Arkansas PRSA recognized the recipients of the PRSSA Prism Awards. Undergraduate students from Arkansas State University, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of Central Arkansas submitted entries showcasing their best public relations and communication projects. Congratulations to the winners! The Arkansas Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America recognizes exceptional public relations programs and the skills of the state's practitioners, companies and organizations by presenting the annual Prism Awards. This year, we're teaming up with the International Association of Business Communicators to host a joint awards presentation ceremony in September we're calling the ARcom Arkansas Marketing and Communications Event.

All Prism Awards are judged by highly qualified professionals from other markets who hold the APR credential, in order to bring the highest level of professionalism to the awards program.

Call for Nominations for the 2018 Board of Directors

The Arkansas Chapter of PRSA seeks nominations for the 2018 board of directors. Any member wishing to be considered for nomination to the board should submit an email to the nominating committee chair, Becca Green, APR (, requesting consideration for nomination. Members may also nominate other members with a letter or an email of support. Additional information may be requested by the nominating committee as its work proceeds. Nominations are due by July 1, 2018.

This is a terrific opportunity to serve in a chapter leadership position, learn about working on a nonprofit board, and become well acquainted with chapter and national PRSA policies. The board meets monthly and usually participates in an annual retreat in December or January prior to beginning service.

Available positions include:

  • President-Elect: The president-elect is responsible for coordinating and scheduling monthly chapter programming and speakers. This position is a one-year term, and the candidate must be an APR.

  • Vice-President: The vice president is in charge of all communications for the chapter, including assisting the webmaster with the website, monthly newsletter and social media channels, in addition to any public relations efforts for the chapter. This position is a one-year term.

  • Secretary: The secretary keeps all records of all meetings of the chapter and of the board and issues notices of all board meetings. This position is a one-year term.

  • Treasurer: The treasurer is responsible for the safekeeping and record-keeping of all moneys of the chapter, disbursing chapter funds and reporting on the chapter's financial condition at each meeting of the board of directors. This position is a one-year term.

  • Director-At-Large (Membership): The director-at-large is in charge of overseeing and coordinating chapter membership. This position is a three-year term.

  • Assembly delegate: The Assembly Delegate attends the chapter board meetings regularly to get input on any assembly votes taken at the PRSA International Conference held in the fall of each year. This officer attends the conference on behalf of the chapter. This position is a two-year term.

IABC/Arkansas Summer Camp set for June 30

IABC/Arkansas invites communications professionals to “Harness the Power!” at its 2017 Summer Camp. The annual event will take place Friday, June 30, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas, located at 1 Cooperative Way in Little Rock.

Bylaws Update Approved

Thank you to the chapter members who voted on the PRSA bylaws change in April. As you may recall, the recommended changes were to bring our governing documents up to date with current procedures. Of the 48 votes received (which exceeds a quorum of the chapter membership), 100 percent were in the affirmative. The approved version of the bylaws is available to view at

  1. From the Member Area login page, click on Forgot Username/Password and enter the email address you have on file with PRSA National. If you are unsure, email Nikki Heck, APR, at

  2. You should receive an email that includes a link to access your account and reset your password. Follow the link and log in using your email address, seven-digit PRSA Member ID number, or your username (if applicable). These credentials will be provided in the email.

  3. Once you reset your password and log in to the Member Area, you can click on My Account Info to update your username to what you used before the import. You will be able to access the Member Area with the username of your choosing, your email address, or your seven-digit PRSA Member ID number.
