August Chapter Meeting: Speed Networking

Friday, August 18
11:45 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Register Here

August not only means "Back to School," but it also means "Back to Professional Development!" Join PRSA in August for a special speed networking event.

Speed networking is the perfect way to learn more about your fellow communication professionals, as well as learn more about jobs that are available! Have a friend who is a professional communicator, but not a member of PRSA? Bring them to the August luncheon for an opportunity to network and get better acquainted with industry pros. You never know where the next job offer or business lead may come from. Every member who brings a guest will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a family four pack to the Arkansas Travelers or a Summer Moscow Mule gift basket.

"It is our job to invest in ourselves over the course of our careers to be smarter, better prepared and more connected as leaders within our companies, organizations and associations and PRSA gives you that opportunity to learn, grow, mentor and network."

- Jane Dvorak, APR, PRSA Fellow, 2017 National Chair

The Arkansas Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America recognizes exceptional public relations programs and the skills of the state's practitioners, companies and organizations by presenting the annual Prism Awards. This year, we're teaming up with the International Association of Business Communicators to host a joint awards presentation ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 14, named the ARcom Arkansas Marketing and Communications Event.

This year, we will notify you in advance if one of your entries has been selected to receive an award at the event. Award winners will be announced soon.

Tickets are available now and are $50 for members of IABC and PRSA and $60 for non-members if purchased in advance. All tickets sold at the door will be $65.

Our chapter’s new partnership with IABC creates opportunities to build the audience for the Prism Awards event and amplify the reach of your sponsorship. It takes resources to host a quality event, so we need your help. Consider sponsoring a table (a great option if you plan to bring several team members or clients), or one of our categories: Single-Element or Multi-Element.Email Prisms Chair Stella Prather, APR, at prismawards@arkprsa.org if you're interested in reviewing our sponsor packages.

Thank you to our sponsors:

Member News

We want to hear your good news. Notify Nikki Heck, APR, at membership@arkprsa.org to be featured in the next newsletter.

Heather Haywood, APR competes Reputation Management Program

Arkansas PRSA board member Heather Haywood, APR, recently completed PRSA’s new Reputation Management Certificate Program. PRSA developed this program to equip management-level communicators with advanced perspective, best practices and resources to meet the changing expectations of senior management for Reputation Leadership. The program included eight presentation modules and reading assignments. Upon successfully completing a test at the end of the series, participants were awarded a certificate of completion.

Haywood, the only PR professional from Arkansas to participate in the Reputation Management Certificate Program, said it was a valued investment in her professional development.

“With the rapidly changing environment of communications, public relations practitioners are now being viewed as the reputation experts inside their organizations,” Haywood said. “As reputation management expands into business strategies, I wanted to learn key skills that would help me become a more effective reputation leader in my role at Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C.”

The course was led by nationally recognized experts who presented information, data and case studies about each of their companies’ reputation journeys. Completing the course earned Haywood eight credits toward the maintenance of her APR.

“After completing the program, I am now more confident in my knowledge, skills and abilities and believe I am better equipped to be a reputation champion for the firm.”

Congratulations, Heather!
