Eliza Gaines of WEHCO Media and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette will show a presentation that dives into the public’s perception of the media, changes that are taking place in terms of news consumption, and the Democrat-Gazette’s decision to shift to a daily digital-only format (excluding the Sunday printed edition). Eliza will also discuss how the move to digital has impacted the newsroom, and how it will affect the public relations process.

Eliza Gaines, a Little Rock native, is the Vice President of Audience Development for WEHCO Media, Inc. WEHCO is a privately owned diversified communications company with interests in newspaper publishing, cable television, and digital services. The company has been family owned since its founding in 1909. It operates daily and weekly newspapers, magazines, and cable television companies in six states. 

Eliza attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned her B.A. in English and later her M.A. in Mass Communication, where her focus was business and media. She has had roles as the Assistant Publisher at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Executive Editor of the Hot Springs Sentinel-Record. Her current job as VP of Audience Development is both an editorial and corporate role.
Eliza is on the boards of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association, CHI St. Vincent Foundation, and Our House. She is a member of the Junior League of Little Rock. Eliza is married to Alec, an attorney, and they have three young children.
