Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: PR Industry Imperatives
Kaniqua brings more than 10 years of experience in storytelling and overseeing communications strategies focused on integrated media, executive positioning, corporate social responsibility, donor relations, event management and crisis planning.
She is skilled in activating C-suite leadership, writing speeches and thought leadership content, landing key media placements and developing messaging material.
Kaniqua holds in-house communications and agency experience having worked with Weber Shandwick, Detroit Public Schools and McLaren Oakland Medical Center. In each role, she led teams to develop media relations and social media programs, internal communications plans, and creative marketing/branding content.
Her work expands several industry sectors including: social impact, health care, education, economic and community development, consumer, mobility/AV technology, travel, and diversity and inclusion.
She has worked with clients including the Kresge Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Priority Health, General Motors, Bank of America, MEDC, Pure Michigan, The Henry Ford, Nestle Waters, ALDI and others.
Kaniqua started her career as a news reporter with the Oakland Press. She holds a journalism degree from Oakland University and a master’s degree in public relations and organizational communications from Wayne State University. In her spare time, she teaches journalism and PR courses. She’s an avid Detroiter and proud mom of two.
